Volunteer Opportunities

The success of Road relies on the good will of our volunteers. 
 
All volunteer positions require that you be in good physical health, with the ability to stand and walk for at least a  two-hour shift.  All volunteers must be 18 years or older for insurance requirements and sign a liability waiver.

Volunteer Sign ups will begin the day Class Registration Opens.

Quilt Hanging:

Join us in working to hang all the spceical exhibits that will be on display at the show. It’s an excellent opportunity to get up close and personal with the quilts. We are seeking energetic volunteers who possess the stamina to work these extended shifts in assisting with the hanging of special exhibits. 

Required:
Agility and stamina are essential. Standing for extended periods may be necessary. You may also need to climb a stepladder.
Please refrain from wearing makeup, perfume, scented lotion, dangling jewelry, or earrings.
Comfortable, closed-toed shoes are required as you’ll be working in an active environment.

Times for Quilt  Hanging

Quilt Hanging Shift 1: Tuesday 12 pm - 6 pm 
Quilt Hanging Shift 2: Wednesday 8 am - 12 pm
Quilt Hanging Shift 3: Wednesday 1 pm - 6 pm

Quilt Docent Opportunities

 Quilt Docents are dedicated volunteers who safeguard the quilts, ensuring that guests refrain from touching them. They warmly greet visitors, diligently circulate within their designated areas. 

Here are the simple guidelines:
Wear a black skirt or pants and a white blouse. You’ll be provided with a pair of white gloves.
Report to the Volunteer Desk 15 minutes before your scheduled shift begins.
Stay within your assigned area. Please refrain from shopping during your shift.
A minimum shift duration is 2 to 3 hours, and it cannot be divided with another volunteer.

 
Shifts:
There are 3 shifts in a day. A Morning, Midday and Afternoon Shift. Pick out the shift that works best for you!

Take Down Volunteer

Can you believe that what takes multiple days to set up is dismantled in just a few hours? Our take-down crew is incredible and works swiftly and diligently to dismantle quilt display. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how we meticulously track and safeguard our quilts. 

Volunteers must be able to:
- Stand for extended periods.
- Climb a stepladder.
- Refrain from wearing makeup, perfume, or scented lotion.
- Wear closed-toe, comfortable shoes.
- Avoid wearing dangling jewelry or earrings.

Saturday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM 

Sit Down Opportunities:

At the present time Road to Virginia does not have any sit down opportunities.

Perks!

Below are the "perks" for a Roadie who volunteers their time during the previous Road to Virginia.
(VIQ is not an eligible position for the below perks):
 
• 2 Hours - Single Day Admission
• 4 Hours - Multi-Day Admission, Year Bar and Road Bag.
• 6 Hours - All of the above and choice of: Special Event or Lecture Ticket** or Priority Registration for the following year's Class Sessions 
(Priority Registration allows you to register for classes on-line up to 1 week prior to the general public!)

 
** Tickets subject to availability. Excludes Bus Trips.

Please be advised - Opportunity Quilt volunteers only receive admission the day they Quilt Docent. We do not provide any additional perks beyond the single day admission for opportunity quilt volunteer hours.
